Character: Hakaze Kusaribe
Series: Zetsuen no Tempest
Character Age: Late teens

Canon: In this world there are two gods known as the Tree of Genesis and the Tree of Exodus; both of them, though, have been in deep sleep after a conflict many years ago. The Kusaribe clan, made up of mages who worship Genesis, have the task of protecting the world’s logic and making sure that the Tree of Exodus does not rise again. Hakaze is the clan’s princess as well as the most powerful mage in the world. However, she is betrayed, stuffed in a barrel, and marooned on a desert island without the means to leave on her own. In order to aid her escape she uses magic to enlist the help of Mahiro Fuwa, a teenager who wants revenge against his sister’s murderer, as well as his childhood friend, Yoshino Takigawa. Together, the three of them try to save the world from godly plantlife.

When people say that Hakaze is the most powerful mage, they really mean it. She’s favored by the Tree of Genesis, which means that the world’s logic always sides with her. If she wills for something enough, it will happen. Because of that, she is very overconfident and is pretty blunt. She always takes charge of situations, and can be somewhat overbearing while doing so. But despite that, she is very loving towards those she cares for and is very dedicated to her work as a mage. Highly intelligent and determined, it’s rather difficult to knock her down from her proud pedestal. Unless you bring up Yoshino, anyway, because then Hakaze has a tendency of acting like an awkward schoolgirl with a crush. If he’s involved, she may throw out her principles for his sake. And whether or not that’s a good thing is up for debate.

Note: The series is heavily influenced by Shakespeare, especially
Hamlet and The Tempest. Hakaze, however, isn’t very knowledgeable of either.

Sample Entry:

Tell us about yourself in a few words.
I am Hakaze Kusaribe, the princess of the Kusaribe clan. Although you obviously already know that, or else I wouldn’t be here right now.

Why are you joining our happy community?
I received a letter from an Elizabeth Sayre, who very humbly invited me to take a look around her camp. She claimed it was a center for worshiping Genesis, and that she would be honored if I paid a visit and talked about what my duties are as a mage. Of course I was suspicious right away and decided to take a look for myself. And just as I thought, this place has absolutely nothing to do with any of that nonsense she claimed. I can’t believe anyone would think that such a flimsy lie would fool me! Unless her actual objective was to just get me here so I’d be trapped, then I guess she did a pretty good job of that. Hmph . . .

What do you expect from your camp experience?
I plan to find out exactly what’s going on here. People being taken from their homes? Small creatures that bring you back from the dead, as well as zombies? This camp goes against the world’s logic in such a way that makes my head spin! While I may be here against my will for the time being, I’m definitely going to use this time wisely. So watch your back, Elizabeth. You’re going to regret lying to me.

Do you think you are good in a crisis? Why?
There’s probably an appropriate Hamlet quote I could use here, but sadly I haven’t had the time to memorize plays unlike some people. To reply to the question, I was raised to deal with crises. You could say I was even born to do it. I have a lot of experience under my belt, and I’m pretty powerful, if I do say so myself. I’ve learned that most things can’t handle a good punch to the face from me!

What if the crisis involved the end of the world? Please explain.
You might as well call that another Monday for me. Like I said, I was basically born to deal with such events. I’ve put a lot of effort into protecting this world from any evil that may try to harm it, so you can bet there’s no way I will allow it to end on my watch! Although I’m really not sure why I’m being asked these questions when you already made it obvious that you know the answers to them. I guess this might just be a way to waste my time. If that’s the case, then congrats on another successful scheme considering I’m still going along with this.

Can you swim? Y/N Of course I can! Who do you think you’re talking to?
- Could you still do it under extreme distress? Y/N I can do many things under extreme distress, thank you very much.
-- While dragging someone else to shore? Y/N Hm, I haven’t actually tested this out, but I’m sure it’ll be easy for me.
--- While something, let’s say a tentacle, tries to drag you under? Y/N I—what? Why exactly are tentacles involved now?
---- How would you handle that situation? Exactly why would that situation even come up?! Maybe I should take a look at the ocean to be safe . . .

If you could choose to bring three objects to a desert island, what would you bring and why?
. . . Ha ha ha. Very funny.
